Portland Dames president Melissa Maki has been awarded 2018 Regional Support of the Year for Landry’s McCormick and Schmick’s Concept. This is a very high honor within the corporation. Only a select few out of thousands of managers and above receive such an esteemed award.

Featured Recipe

Purple Carrot-Rhubarb Marmalade by Dame Heather Arndt Anderson

1 lb carrots (preferably purple), shredded

1 lb rhubarb, finely sliced

3 cups sugar

zest and juice from one orange

1/8 tsp ground cardamom

1 tbsp grated ginger

1/4 c lemon juice

1/4 c unsweetened cranberry juice

Simmer 20-30 minutes over medium-low heat until rhubarb is tender and jam passes the cold plate test.

New Food and Wine Master Classes by Dame Cheryl Wakerhauser

Fine-tune your baking, explore a new wine region or just have some fun with friends in one of Cheryl Wakerhauser’s food & wine master classes . All classes are hands-on, interactive workshops, as Cheryl believes this is the best way to retain what you’ve learned (and also more fun!) Class sizes are limited to 12 participants so each person has the chance to fully understand every step of the subject being covered and time to ask plenty of questions. Tea Time

This February the Portland chapter of LDEI held a Tea & Artisan Market to raise funds for a new scholarship supporting women in joining the culinary arts profession. Spearheaded by dame Sarah Marshall, the event was a huge success, raising over $2,000! We had a great turnout with some amazing food, tea and wine donated by several local producers. Thank you to all who participated!

LDEI Portland Treasurer Heather Arndt Anderson was awarded Third Prize in the Internet Category of LDEI’s 2018 M.F.K. Fisher Awards for Excellence in Culinary Writing for her story, “Before Guy, There Was Graham.” Congratulations, Heather! For those Dames interested, the deadline for the 2019 contest is March 31st for writing published during 2018.

PDX Dame and Pix Patisserie owner Cheryl Wakerhauser has won the World’s Best Champagne and Sparkling Wine List for the 5th consecutive year in a row. The World’s Best Wine Lists is the most prestigious and rigorous wine list awards, judging over 4,500 restaurants lists worldwide. Each year the awards highlight prominent wine lists in wine establishments around the world. Felicitations, Cheryl!
